Garnet abrasiv: the best abrasive for waterjet cutting
With our long time partner IGM we have a selection of the best abrasives in the world for waterjet cutting applications.

After all it’s just a mineral, what can be the difference?
Though Almandine garnet is considered to be the mineral with the best properties for water jet cutting in general there are several critical factors that can greatly affect the overall performance of your cutting workshop when it comes to garnet choice.
Optimum hardness, specific density, toughness and particle shape determine cutting speed and nozzle wear. Manufacturers must find the best balance between cutting speed and nozzle wear for their application. When it comes to cutting a wide variety of materials as stones, steel, glass or composites your demands couldn’t be more different.
That’s why we have several options for you:
we do the testing ourselves in our testing facility in Hannover, where we can assess for you what’s best and more what’s new on the market.
Our materials come with certified ISO production process with TUV stamp on each bag, plus the state of art tracking technology where you can gather all important informations (batch, datasheets and more) straight from the bag! The abrasive is the biggest cost factor when operating a waterjet cutting system. High quality is therefore important for a reliable and economical cutting process.
The following factors are important:
- Optimum hardness (7-8 mohs) as a compromise between cutting performance and nozzle wear
- Optimal particle density (4.0 or four times that of water) as a compromise between acceleration and power.
- Toughness of the abrasive, neither rounded nor friable and with sharp cutting edges (but hey not too sharp as sharpness means fragility too)
- Purity of the abrasive to ensure a more reliable operation (elimination of any dust)
- Highest possible homogeneity in terms of particle size to avoid blockages in the feed system.
We cooperate with specialists for the procurement of the abrasive and its distribution to your front door as well as recycling or disposal after use.
We are committed into selling only new abrasives and without adding recycled material.
A full range of state of art micro cutting grades are also available and will handle your requirements without a sweat!
